The spring 2010 edition of the Top 100 Church Blogs list has been published! This edition comes with 4 big changes:

  1. 30 Extra Bonus Blogs
    This edition’s top 100 list actually gives you a bonus sneak peek at the next 30 rankings!
  2. No More Technorati
    Since the fall 2009 edition, Technorati stopped providing data on inlinks, and its Authority metrics seem unreliable (a third of the top 40 blogs show no data or a laughable authority of 1). Consequently, Technorati Authority and Technorati Inlinks are no longer measured.
  3. Hello Yahoo Inlinks
    To replace the Technorati metrics, Yahoo Inlinks will now be measure by counting the total number of inlinks to an entire site except from its domain. In fact, its reliability is so good that I should have used this metric in the first place.
  4. Big Ranking Shifts
    A number of top bloggers changed urls since the last edition, which has at least temporarily hurt their rankings in some of the fields. At the same time, the new Yahoo metric consistently provides data on all blogs, where the Technorati metrics previously provided no data on a handful of blogs. This new and more fair and balanced approach has allowed several blogs to significantly jump in rankings.

This list definitely still needs improvement, but I need your help! If you think a blog that is not on the list would qualify, please post a link to it in the comments.

    Yo,K, I’m sure that you’re aware that the link is not working…

    It should work in Firefox. For some reason IE and Chrome users are having problems. I’m looking into the glitch.

    Please consider http://oneinjesus.info for your Top 100. I think it’s numbers would qualify it.

    Alexa 283870
    Yahoo Inlinks 13339
    Compete 2483
    Google Reader 139
    Google Rank 2

    All of my self-esteem is gone with my sudden drop in rankings. ;-)

    @Ed That breaks my heart.

    Kent, your lists are epic!

    But I don’t see my blog on the list. Surely it merits making the top 130 Christian blogs. I mean, c’mon, why would I be disqualified just because I don’t write about Christian things and my mom is the only person that reads it? That seems a little elitist to me.

    [totally kidding!!!]

    @Scott The fact that you had to indicate that you were “totally joking” speaks volumes on what you think of my perception skills. ;)

    Thanks for putting all this together Kent.
    I love seeing that Mr Saddington is on there not only for his blogs but also in design of a lot of the blogs.
    8bit FTW

    Did I read that right that you take the stats from July 2009?

    @Kyle

    Whoops! That’s a typo from the last edition. The Compete stats were from Jan 2010 metrics.

    Hi Kent,

    Good work. I have a question. What criteria actually makes a website a blog? I saw some online ministries on your list that may not technically be blogs. Is there some code one needs to put into ones site for sites like Alexa to get accurate readings of one’s site.?

    Blessings
    John

    Honored to be on your list Kent.

  15. Kent Shaffer on March 26, 2010 7:48 am

    @John,

    I tend to qualify blogs as Websites with frequent content that displays in reverse-chronological order and distributes the content outside of its domain with RSS. Allowing comments isn’t necessary. There are gray areas, which makes the designation process flawed. :(

    You do not need to embed any code for Alexa to work. All of the metrics I choose are for the most part fair and give each blog an equal chance of balanced measurement.

    I’ve been robbed! 164 RSS subscribers? What?? @#%$!

    Seriously, thanks for putting on your not so little list, Kent. Honored to be ranked beneath so many great bloggers.

    -Shaun

    PS. 1595 subscribers. Not that I’m counting. ; )
