According to Haaretz, The New York Times wants to transition from print to the Internet. Online readership is growing strong, and profits from print are declining. They reach 1.5 million readers online and 1.1 million subscribers with print.

I really don’t know whether we’ll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don’t care either. The Internet is a wonderful place to be, and we’re leading there.

Reality is that print is expensive, and the Internet is cheap and much easier to reach people. Of course, print will still have its place in this world, but in many situations it is no longer the most efficient and effective means of reaching people.

Ask yourself what printed materials you can trim from your church’s budget. Can you reduce the content and size of your bulletin? Can you switch your monthly newsletter to an email format? Using email, blogs, or your church website versus print media will save your church thousands of dollars and possibly enhance the effectiveness of your communication.
